Amazon has quickly become a household name in India as it dominates India’s e-commerce space with 134 million active users as of June 2024, over 1.6 million local sellers. In FY24, Amazon India's revenue from sales or marketplace services was Rs 14,285 crore, up 14 percent YoY.
Globally, Amazon is part of the exclusive trillion dollar club with a market cap exceeding $2.42 trillion and serves 310 million active users worldwide.
But there is more to Amazon than just its e-retail business as it has several other major revenue streams like its cloud, ad & sales and OTT. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leader in the cloud infrastructure market with a 31% share, generating $27.5 billion in Q3 2024 and accounting for 60% of Amazon's total profits.
AWS even has a strong foothold in India, becoming the first global cloud provider certified by the IT Ministry in 2017. It has also partnered with ISRO and IN-SPACe to drive space-tech innovations in the country.
Amazon's entertainment business which includes Prime Video is a huge success in India with a market share of 23% and a user base of 200 million, second to just Disney+ Hotstar. Amazon continues to prioritize India as a key market. Since its 2016 launch, it has attracted viewers from 99% of India's pin codes. In 2024, Prime Video announced its most ambitious lineup yet, unveiling nearly 70 original series and movies across multiple languages and genres.
But Amazon's revenue source does not just stop there. It is a growing powerhouse in the advertising division as well with a market share of 8.8%, generating $14.3 billion in Q3 2024, rising 19% YoY. This has put Amazon in a position to compete with other giants like Google and Meta that have been ruling this space so far with a market share of 27.7% and 22.8% respectively.
Ranked as the 4th most valuable brand globally in 2024, Amazon’s strong market presence and leadership across e-commerce, cloud computing, and advertising make it an appealing choice for Indian investors seeking multiple high-growth industries with a single stock.

Indian investors can buy Amazon shares in fractions or a part of the whole stock value instead of the entire stock. In simple terms, you can even buy 0.1 or any fraction of Amazon stock units.
Let us understand this better with an example, if you have $10 or ₹849.76 to invest and the cost of Amazon stock is $227.03 or ₹19,234, you can still invest your $10 or ₹847.2 and get 10/227.03 that is 0.0440 units of the Amazon stock in your account.
Another way to understand this is, if 1 Amazon stock costs $227.03 or ₹19,234, you can buy Amazon stock worth $250 or ₹21,180 which will give you 250/227.03 units which means you will get 1.10 Amazon shares.
