Since its inception, Richard Allison has served as the firm’s chief executive officer. Tom Monaghan started Domino’s Pizza, Inc. in 1965 after acquiring two more pizzerias in the same county. The original owner banned Monaghan from using Dominick’s name because he wanted all businesses to have the same look and feel. Domino’s was the second-largest pizza chain in the world in 1997. As of 1997, Domino’s had 4,431 delivery locations in the United States and more than 1,521 international locations. With revenues of $3.16 billion in 1997, it was ranked No. 150 on Forbes’ list of its biggest private businesses. Domino’s sold over 325 million slices of pizza in 1997, with pepperoni topping the most popular toppings. The business used more than 27 million pounds of pepperoni in that year and 174m pounds of part-skim mozzarella cheese. Domino’s reached record sales of about $3.2 billion in 1997, representing a 14.3 percent raise over the previous year’s figures. Sales at Domino’s locations that had been operating for more than a year increased by 2% in 1996. Domino’s opened its first Italian shop in Milan in October 2015. In February 2016, Domino’s celebrated the grand opening of their 1,000th shop in India. The brand has the most outlets globally, bar none, other than in the United States.
