Applying for a new PAN card and confused about the PAN card fees or charges? Well, it is not an expensive affair, and the process of doing so is straightforward, too.

What is a PAN Card? Why is PAN Mandatory?

A PAN card, or Permanent Account Number card, is a critical document in India. Using a PAN card, you can verify your identity, contribute to curb tax evasion, and help the government maintain a transparent financial system.

It is mandatory for you to have a PAN card if you are involved in any economic activities in India, as quoted by Rule 114B of the Indian Tax Rules.

Unfortunately, some individuals, either knowingly or unknowingly, engage in financial dealings without a PAN, violating this very law. Hence, they end up getting trapped in penalties.

PAN Card Charges to get New PAN Card

So, you need a new PAN card. What is it going to cost you to get one?

Applying for a new PAN card in India is convenient and efficient. You can apply through the official portals operated by Protean (formerly NSDL e-Gov) or UTIITSL. Here's what you need to know about the fees:

In the past, there had been some confusion about the PAN card fees. However, the government has now standardized the fees for all applications within an Indian communication address. Although there's a fixed fee for applications, the final amount might slightly differ based on the payment method you select. If you're a citizen residing outside India, you can expect higher charges.

Applicants residing within the country need to pay a fee of ₹101. This PAN card fee includes a processing charge of ₹86 plus a GST of 18%.

Any individual or non-individual entity of the income-earning profile must possess a PAN card. PAN cards will allow you to simplify your financial transactions and benefit from the subsidies allowed by the government.

PAN Card Fees for Indian Citizens with Foreign Communication Address

For Indian citizens having foreign communication addresses, charges for a physical PAN card would be ₹1,011, including GST.

You can make the payment via credit/debit card, demand draft, or net banking. However, as per RBI guidelines, a PIN is required for online transactions, so be sure to have this information ready. After your application and payment are accepted, you'll need to courier your supporting documents to the respective agency for your application to be processed further.

PAN Card Fees for Issuing e-PAN Card

The Income Tax Department recognizes e-PAN as valid proof of PAN. The fee for this service is ₹50, including all taxes for those with an Indian communication address, and ₹959 (inclusive of taxes) for those with a foreign address. The best part? There's no need to submit a new application form or any supporting documents.

If you already have a PAN allotted but need the physical card, you can request a reissue without any changes to your existing details. This process is simple and can be done entirely online if your latest PAN application was processed through Protean or the Income Tax Department's e-filing portal.
