What is the deadline for linking Aadhar with PAN?
According to Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, 1961, every Indian resident has to link their Aadhaar card with their PAN card if the PAN card is made on or before July 1, 2017. The Aadhaar PAN linking due date or deadline is June 30, 2023 with the payment of the fees of ₹1,000. If anyone other than the exempted categories (an NRI, a non-Indian resident, a resident of more than 80 years of age, and a resident of Assam, Meghalaya, or Jammu and Kashmir) fails to do so, then the PAN card will become inoperative on April 1st, 2023.

Other ways to link Aadhaar with PAN: A step-by-step guide
After the payment process is done either through the e-filing portal or through the Protean portal, you can choose to go with the next step of Aadhaar PAN linking online. If you have made the payment through the e-filing portal, you can complete the process immediately. If you have made the payment through the Protean portal, you can complete the process only after a maximum of 5 days.
Post-login method
- You can choose to do this after logging on to the https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login website. You can log in using your user ID, which is your PAN card number, password, and DOB after completing the registration process.
- You have to go to your dashboard and click the “Link Aadhaar to PAN” option.
- Check the already-filled details according to your PAN card, such as name, DOB, or gender.
- After that, enter your Aadhaar card number and click the “Link Now” option.
- You will get a pop-up message from the portal that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN.
Pre-login method
- If you don’t want to log in, you can go to this portal: https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/bl-link-aadhaar.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar card number in the respective fields.
- Enter the details, such as name as per Aadhaar and mobile number. Submit the OTP and click validate.
- If you haven’t made the Aadhaar PAN linking fee payment, you will get the pop-up that says “Payment details not found.” You can go with the same step of payment as mentioned earlier.
- If your PAN card is already linked to your Aadhaar, check the details first and click validate.
- If these sites don’t work, you can also go to the UTIITSL or Protean websites to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card.
- You can link your Aadhaar with your PAN through SMS. All you have to do is type UIDPAN <space><12-digit Aadhaar number><space>< 10-digit PAN number>, and send this message to any of the numbers 567678 or 56161.
- You can complete the process offline by visiting the PAN service centers and submitting the Annexure-I form along with a copy of your PAN card and Aadhaar card and the required payment.
How to check the Aadhar-PAN linking status?
If you want to check your Aadhaar-PAN linking status online, you can do it with or without logging in to the e-filing portal. You can check the status through the SMS service.
Post-login method
- After logging in on https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login, go to the dashboard and click “Link Aadhaar Status.”
- If the Aadhaar PAN linking process is complete, the Aadhaar number will be shown; if not, the Link Aadhaar Status will not be shown.
- If the process fails, you have to follow the previous steps again, but you don’t need to make the payment again, and if it is with the UIDAI for verification, you can check the status later.
Pre-login method
- Go to the portal with this link https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/link-aadhaar-status.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar card number and click “View Link Aadhaar Status.”
- If the Aadhaar-PAN linking process is not completed and is still in progress, the dialog box will appear, which says that “Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been sent to UIDAI for validation. Please check the status later by clicking on Link Aadhaar Status on the home page.”
- If the Aadhaar PAN linking process is completed, the dialog box says that “Your PAN XXX is already linked to the given Aadhaar XXX.”

You can also check the status via SMS by following these steps:
- Go to the text message app on your mobile phone.
- After that, type the message as UIDPAN <space><12-digit Aadhaar number><space>< 10-digit PAN number>.
- Send the message to either 567678 or 56161 from a mobile number that is linked to your Aadhaar card.
- If the process is completed, you will get the automated message that “Aadhaar is already linked to your PAN card,” and if not, the message will say that “Aadhaar is not associated with your PAN number.”
