Introduction

Reliance has its history back then in the 1950s when Dhirubhai Ambani set up Reliance Commercial Corporation as a small venture firm trading commodities, especially spices and polyester yarn which later became Reliance Industries on 8 May 1973. Later in 2005, all Reliance companies were divided into two divisions.

So how did  Reliance’s business list become so vast today? In just one decade of setting up of  Reliance it focused on expanding into the textile industry and its related sectors and also launched its IPO (Initial Public Offering ) in 1977. In 2002, they entered into the infocomm business and by then its value had grown to US $ 15 billion. 

Following Dhirubhai’s death in 2002, his sons Mukesh and Anil assumed joint leadership of all the companies of RelianceCompanies of Reliance were split into Reliance Industries Limited headed by Mukesh Ambani, and Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group headed by Anil Ambani in 2005.

Reliance Life Sciences is involved in the manufacturing, branding, and marketing of Reliance Industries products in biopharmaceuticals, clinical research services, plant biotechnology, regenerative medicine, molecular medicine, novel therapeutics, biofuels and industrial biotechnology sectors of the medical business industry. 

Reliance Logistics

Reliance Logistics sells transportation, distribution, warehousing, logistics, and supply chain-related products. It is an asset-based company with its own fleet and infrastructure. It also provides logistics services to Reliance group subsidiaries and outside companies. 

Reliance Solar

Reliance Solar was established to produce and retail solar energy systems primarily to remote and rural areas. It offers a range of products based on solar energy, water purification systems, refrigeration systems, home lighting systems, street lighting systems and solar air conditioners and lanterns.

Network 18

Network 18 is the mass media company and it has businesses in television, digital platforms, publication, mobile apps, and films. It also operates two joint ventures, acquired ETV networks and also renamed its brand under Colors TV.

It is an associate company of Reliance Industries and holds 45.43% of the total shares of Reliance Industries. It mainly operates in the business of setting up, operating industrial infrastructure and also engaged in related activities such as  leasing through its services networks.

It was established in 2009 to provide healthcare services with its excellence in clinical services, diagnostic facilities and research activities. It has around 15  centers of excellence, 26 specialty departments, 20 super specialist clinics and five support groups. 

Reliance Entertainment

Reliance Entertainment is its businesses in filmed entertainment (film production and distribution). It has built an impressive film production slate in Hindi, English & other Indian languages, which it markets and distributes worldwide.  

Reliance Defence

Reliance Naval and Engineering Limited has the largest engineering infrastructure in India. It is the first private sector company in India to obtain the license and contract to build warships. It also operates India’s largest integrated shipbuilding facility with 662 M x 65 M Dry dock. They have their own fabrication facility and shipyard services in facility houses.  

Reliance Roads

In the roads sector, Reliance Infrastructure is amongst the largest private companies in India. It has a portfolio of 11 projects totalling a length of 1,000 km at project outlay of approximately ₹ 12,000 crore. The company is also operating in three projects of NHAI totalling 380 km in its portfolio. Some of its projects include Delhi- Agra road, Gurgaon – Faridabad Road, Pune – Satara Road, Hosur – Krishnagiri Road and others. They are also operating in Reliance Mumbai Metro.
