In today’s highly technology driven trading environment, there are increasing instances of cyber frauds being reported. Fraudsters are coming up with innovative ways to defraud investors and hence it is imperative for our users to be aware about such frauds, stay vigilant and not fall prey to scams.

This blog will help you identify the real INDmoney channels, spot scams, and make safe financial decisions. Because in the world of investing, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Let’s get started.

The Real INDmoney: How to Identify Official INDmoney Platforms and Communication Channels

Staying safe starts with knowing where to find the real INDmoney and how we communicate. Here’s how to ensure you’re interacting with the official platform:

1. Website: The ONLY official INDmoney website is www.indmoney.com. Other websites claiming to be INDmoney main/fast/sub-accounts by primary market makers are NOT associated with INDmoney in any capacity.

2. App: The INDmoney and INDstocks apps are available only on Google Play Store and Apple App Store. To double-check that you’re only downloading the real INDmoney app, ensure to:

- Carefully read the reviews and ratings
- Research the developer's name
- Check the app's permissions
- Look for any grammatical errors in the description, and
- Verify if Google Play Protect flags the app as potentially harmful

3. Social Media: Make sure to subscribe/follow INDmoney only via our verified accounts on InstagramTwitterLinkedInYouTube and Facebook. To do the same, make sure you:

- Look for a blue verification checkmark
- Analyze the profile picture for authenticity
- Check for consistent branding across platforms
- Verify the account handle against the official website

4. WhatsApp: INDmoney has only one business account on WhatsApp via which you receive updates about account setup and recent features updates. The business account comes with:
- a verified badge
- contact number of +91 93118 16478
INDmoney does not have any second account/groups/broadcast channels that guarantees returns. INDmoney will never ask you for personal information/OTPs/cash transfers to personal accounts for a “faster” setup.

How To Spot Fake Websites and Apps

Please remember that the real INDmoney app will never ask you to download APK files or click on links outside the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Be specifically aware and do not download any apps hosted on untrusted domains like hutern.com or vrieos.com. These are not associated with INDmoney.

You can also go through the complete list of fake groups and persons impersonating INDmoney promising investors high/guaranteed returns on investments.

How does INDmoney Communicate?

INDmoney will communicate with you ONLY via official channels. All communication will be about news/updates and NEVER to guarantee returns or ask for cash transfers to personal accounts in lieu of a faster experience/assured returns.

  • Messages: All messages maintain clear branding and never promise guaranteed or assured returns.
  • Emails: Official emails are sent only from @indmoney.com addresses. Double check the email address before taking any action.
  • Regulations: INDmoney strictly follows SEBI guidelines and does not offer indicative or guaranteed returns.

Protect Yourself with these Simple Do’s and Don’ts:

DO’S: Steps to Stay Secure

  1. Contact Customer Support: If you’re unsure about a message, call, or offer, directly reach out to INDmoney’s customer support via the app or official website. It’s better to double-check than to fall victim to a scam/fraud.
  2. Verify Official Accounts/Check Broker legitimacy: Always check for the blue checkmark on social media platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook to ensure you’re interacting with official INDmoney accounts/Official channels. Always conduct thorough research before engaging with any individual or platform.
  3. Cross-Check Credentials: Use tools like the NSE “Know Your Stock Broker” tool to verify the legitimacy of any individual or entity claiming to represent INDmoney or any stockbroker. Always be cautious of unsolicited financial advice. Before acting on any tips, verify the credentials of the person offering the advice. If you are part of a finance-related WhatsApp group, ask the admin to share registration details and check on the relevant regulatory authorities.

DONT'S: Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Don’t Share Sensitive Information: Don’t share your Password/OTP/PIN with anyone. Don’t open links received from unknown numbers/email IDs. Legitimate organizations like INDmoney will never ask for this over calls, messages, or emails.
  2. Say NO to Guaranteed Returns: Do not invest in investment schemes promising unreasonably higher or assured returns. Don’t fall prey to recommendations on stocks received via SMS or on social sites. No genuine investment platform can promise risk-free or guaranteed returns. Stock market investments always carry a level of risk, and claims to the contrary are a big red flag.
  3. Financial Transactions: Don’t transfer funds to an unauthorized person for trading or investment purposes. Don’t invest in any profit-sharing scheme.
  4. Fake Messages: Stay away from messages mentioning assured or guaranteed returns on investment in stocks. Do not rely on tips/unsolicited messages on stocks.
  5. Avoid APK Downloads: Never install apps from links sent by unknown sources or strangers. Scammers often use unauthorized APK files to trick you into downloading malware or fake apps. Always download apps only from Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Steps to Take If You Suspect Fraud

1. Report the Incident: Immediately report the issue by sending an email at reportfraud@indmoney.com or contacting our customer support team. This helps us take swift action against scammers. Call the cybercrime helpline at 1930 or report the fraud on the Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to alert authorities and start the legal process.

2. Secure Your Accounts: Update passwords for your INDmoney account, bank accounts, and any other linked platforms to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, regularly check your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized or suspicious transactions. If you spot anything unusual, inform your bank/Broker immediately.

3. Spread Awareness: Share details of the scam with people you know to help them stay alert. Scammers often target multiple individuals, and your story could save someone else. Use social media to spread awareness, but ensure the information you share is accurate and verified. Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic.

Remember, staying vigilant and proactive is key to combating fraud.

Conclusion

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, using fake promises, unauthorized apps, and stolen branding to deceive unsuspecting individuals. However, with the right knowledge and precautions, you can protect yourself and your investments.

At INDmoney, your safety is our top priority. By sticking to verified platforms, cross-checking credentials, and staying alert to red flags, you can outsmart fraudsters. If you ever suspect fraudulent activity, act quickly—report the issue, secure your accounts, and inform others to prevent further harm.
