Mangalam Cement Limited (MCL) was established in 1976 as a B.K. Birla Group wing. The company produces various grades of cement, including Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) under the brand names of Mangalam and Birla Uttam, using the dry process. MCL operates two manufacturing plants in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, India, with a capacity of up to 10 million tonnes annually. The company has been certified with ISO 9002 for its quality management systems, In 2002 the Indian Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) had declared the company sick. After resubmitting their revival package in 2003, BIFR approved the scheme for the revival of the company. In the year 200607, the company declared a dividend to shareholders after a long period. During 200809, MCL installed seven wind mills with a total capacity of 6.15 megawatts. In 2011, a second Captive Thermal Power Plant of 17.5 megawatts was commissioned and the company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Madhya Pradesh government for the setting up of a cement manufacturing plant. In 2014, the company started commercial production for additional clinker manufacturing capacity of 0.5 million tonnes and commissioning of a new cement mill of 1.25 million tonnes. The company further enhanced their capacity in 2019 and 2021, having increased the overall cement capacity to 4 million tonnes. An amalgamation of Mangalam Timber Products Limited with MCL was approved in 2021, with the assets and liabilities of the transferring company becoming vested with the transferee company from the appointed date of April 2019.
