Williamson Financial Services, formerly known as the Makum Tea Company in India, was mandated to change its name by the Calcutta and Guwahati High Courts in Dec 1994. This merger included the Namdang Tea Company, Macneill Leasing Financial Services, and Macneill Financial Services. Under the scheme of arrangement, country estates were transferred to Mcleod Russel India and investments in two wholly owned subsidiaries, Maknam and Namtok, were transferred to Indian Foils effective from April 1, 1994. The company has subsequently become a member of the massive Rs 1500cr Williamson Magor group with B M Khaitan as it's chairman. Areas of business include fund based activities such as leasing, hire purchase, corporate financing, foreign exchange dealing, corporate restructuring, mergers, merchant banking, and sharebroking. Unfortunately, fund based activities were limited in 19997 due to a lack of finance from the organised financial sector. The company has been registered as a Non-Banking Financial Company with the Reserve Bank of India during 19992000.
