Wipro to Hire 10-12K Freshers in FY26 Amid Visa Concerns

Wipro on Friday said it expects freshers hiring to be between 10,000-12,000 for the next financial year. Wipro -- which reported its Q3 scorecard on Friday -- also sought to downplay any concerns around changes being anticipated in the H-1B Visa regime in the US, saying a significant portion of its employee base there are American locals. We have been hiring a large number... who are locals in the US and today a significant portion of our employee base in the US is local... We have a good inventory of H-1B Visas, so we can move people whenever required... If and as demand goes up, the supply side will not be a constraint for us, Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer of Wipro said during the companys earnings conference. Wipro headcount reduced by 1,157 in Q3FY25, reversing two quarters of employee additions. The employee tally stood at 2,32,732 in Q3 FY25, as against 2,33,889 in Q2FY25, and 2,39,655 in Q3FY24. Govil said that the company has honoured all pending offers it had made. At the end of Q3, we have closed on all the backlog, and there are no pending offers from the past. We have honoured all pending offers, he said. The company will continue to onboard 2,500-3,000 freshers every quarter, which translates into 10,000-12,000 freshers onboarding every fiscal year. On campus, we will be just a shade less than 10,000 for this fiscal. For the next fiscal, we are clear that we will continue between 2500-3000 (every quarter), so 10,000-12,000 is what we want to be, he said.18 Jan, 2025 05:57 PM

Wipro Plans to Hire 10,000-12,000 Freshers in FY26 Focused on AI

Wipro, a leading IT services provider, announced plans to recruit 10,000-12,000 fresh graduates from campuses during the financial year 2025-26. This update follows the companys Q3FY25 financial results, shared on Friday. Saurabh Govil, Wipros Chief Human Resources Officer, stated, While there might be slight quarterly variations, the overall target remains between 10,000-12,000 freshers each fiscal. For the current fiscal year, Wipro aims to hire approximately 10,000 fresh graduates, with about 7,000 already onboarded by the end of the third quarter. The remaining 2,500-3,000 will join in the final quarter. This announcement comes a day after Infosys, another IT giant, revealed plans to onboard over 20,000 freshers in FY26, indicating a recovery in demand and a resurgence in discretionary spending across industries. Govil highlighted Wipros cautious yet steady approach to hiring. We aim to avoid overextending our commitments. Our focus is on maintaining a balance between demand and absorption capacity, he said. Wipro has been reassessing its recruitment strategies, particularly for lateral and campus hiring, to optimize employee utilization and improve profit margins. The company plans to continue onboarding 2,500-3,000 freshers every quarter. Govil noted that Wipro has resumed consistent campus hiring after a period of irregular recruitment over the past two years. We have honored all pending offers and are now engaging in regular hiring cycles, he added. The company has also integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its recruitment process for entry-level positions. AI now plays a role in conducting Level 1 hiring, supported by human oversight, Govil explained, describing this as a significant shift in their hiring methodology. Responding to questions about the withdrawal of offers extended to 2022 engineering graduates, Govil attributed the decision to delays between offer issuance and candidate onboarding. Amid challenging macroeconomic conditions and reduced discretionary spending, many IT firms, including Wipro, deferred the onboarding of 2022 and 2023 graduates. In some cases, freshers were offered the option to join earlier at reduced pay or were later released after failing internal assessments. To address concerns about candidate readiness, Wipro introduced skilling initiatives via online platforms, followed by assessments in technical and communication skills. This process ensures that new hires are equipped to meet the current demands of the IT sector, Govil explained. The reassessment strategy was implemented to uphold quality standards and evaluate whether candidates were prepared to adapt to the evolving industry landscape. Given the gap between graduation and onboarding, we wanted to ensure that new hires were capable of meeting present-day requirements, Govil said. Wipro did not disclose specific data on the acceptance and rejection rates during the reassessment process.18 Jan, 2025 12:23 PM

Wipro Plans Major Campus Hiring Amid IT Sector Recovery

IT major Wipro has announced its plans to onboard 10,000-12,000 freshers in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), the companys Chief Human Resources Officer Saurabh Govil shared this during a press conference following the companys release of its Q3FY25 earnings report. Wipros onboarding plans come after a period of subdued hiring and major layoffs in the IT sector and could potentially signal a turnaround in the industry with a recovery in demand and discretionary spending. For the current financial year, Wipro said that it had aimed to hire about 10,000 freshers. Around 7,000 have already been onboarded in the October-December (Q3) quarter and another 2,500-3,000 are expected to join in the last quarter of FY25. Govil, during the press conference on Friday evening, emphasised a cautious yet consistent hiring approach to avoid overcommitting. This comes as the company reassesses its hiring models to improve employee utilisation and grow margins amid declining attrition rates.18 Jan, 2025 11:17 AM
