About Rvnl
The railway backbone of India, RVNL (Rail Vikas Nigam Limited) was incorporated in 2003 by the Ministry of Railways. The company primarily sets up new rail lines, upgrades existing tracks, electrifies routes, and develops metro systems.
Along with laying tracks, RVNL is also powering India's infrastructure revolution. From helping Indian Railways go green with electrification to supporting local manufacturing under 'Make in India', the company is making big strides for the country.
History of RVNL
RVNL's journey began with former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's big infrastructure push, the National Rail Vikas Yojana, which was announced on Independence Day 2002 and launched in December. The company started operations in March 2005 with projects like new rail lines, track upgrades, and electrification.
In 2010, it set up the High-Speed Rail Corporation. RVNL was launched in 2019 and became the third railway PSU to go public after RITES and IRCON.
Recent milestones:
- Completed port connectivity projects like Obulavaripalli-Krishnapatnam (2019) and Haridaspur-Paradip (2020).
- International expansion with its Kyrgyzstan joint venture in 2022.
- Ranked 94th in Fortune India's 500 (2022).
- Achieved Navratna status in May 2023.
Business & Offerings of RVNL
Railway Infrastructure: RVNL sets up new railway tracks, upgrades existing lines, and constructs and maintains bridges. From this vertical, RVNL generated 91% of the revenue in FY24.
